Finding new designers

I’m not very adventurous when it comes to my wardrobe. Not only do I gravitate towards mostly classic items, I also tend to shop the same designers (or brands) over and over again. Like Equipment for Signature Silk Shirts (easy work wear). Adriano Goldschmied for jeans (wish-listed their distressed black Stilts… I’m wearing the distressed off white ones here and love them!). J. Crew for shoes (the Elsie Pumps and the Elsie d’Orsay pumps that I’m wearing here are both amazing). Its just so easy to stick with what I know. No sizing issues. And I know how to find the stuff on sale.

Its not that I don’t want to expand my wardrobe horizons. I do, I’m trying. But it’s often a time consuming and expensive endeavor. There’s no way to get around the time commitment that I know of, but eBay has been a great way to keep costs lower. I’m a big eBay browser. I find it relaxing after a long day to spend 15 minutes scrolling through item after item, looking for something interesting (this probably sounds awful to others, lol). I’ve had some great finds these past few months! This Eskandar jacket is one of them. I was never attracted to Eskandar clothing. The pieces always looked over-sized and unflattering (see exhibit A…). But during my usual browsing I came across this jacket and gave it a shot (for whatever reason). Over-sized, yes. But a basic shape and amazing fabric (thin itch-free wool and silk lining). Definitely worth the $70 that I paid for it (seeing as the step up version retails for $2495, the retail price for this one was probably crazy, too).
J. Crew Elsie D'Orsay Pumps OutfitTo get ideas of what to search on eBay I’ll often spend time browsing sites like Anthropologie or The Outnet looking for new (to me) brands. This is how I discovered some of my favorite brands like Helmut Lang, Alexander Wang and Eberjey. The unfortunate outcome of doing this is ending up with a huge retail wishlist! I’m usually pretty good and add everything to a “wishlist” tab on the top of my browser to never be looked at again (does anyone else do this?). The only item that I can’t stop thinking about is this gorgeous gathered back lace tee. It’s just so darn unique, I’ve never seen anything quite like it! Its just so hard to get myself to pay full price for anything (even if it won’t likely ever get to sale, like this one). I’ll think about it for just a few more days…
