Share Some Happiness #1
I guess the holidays are coming up already (who knew?). I get to work on every single holiday this year. Drew the short straw or something. I’m not the type of person that lives for the holidays or anything, but I do appreciate family time, which I’ll be missing out on this year. So, instead of feeling sorry for myself, I’m going to focus on the good things. You know, the things we forget to be thankful for. Feel free to comment about the things you’re appreciate of, too!

- Warm coats! I’m one of those people that is always cold. I keep my tiny studio at 74 degrees and I still need to be wrapped up in a blanket! I remember always being cold outside in the winter, regardless of my outerwear. Until I bought this Arcteryx coat three years ago. It has changed my life (sounds ridiculous but I’m totally not kidding!). It is the only thing I’ve ever worn that has prevented me from being instantly chilled in the negative temps. I just purchased the exact same coat again this year because my old one is starting to look quite grungy.
- My cats 🙂 I love my fluffy, kinda cute fur-balls. They’re the most affectionate, cuddly little things ever. And they’re healthy. Well, other than the occasional fancy feast-induced diarrhea.
- Yoga. I’ve been doing yoga off and on since college, but I’m finally getting the mental benefits on top of the physical ones. I struggle to clear my mind of the racing thoughts that we all get. But with practice, its getting easier.
- Food blogs. Seriously, those guys are amazing! I love Skinnytaste, Closet Cooking, Detoxinista, The Picky Eater, and soooo many more. Do share your favorites with me if you’re a foodie, too!
- Small feet. Fitting into kid-sized shoes is awesome. A lot of the basic stuff, like Ugg boots (thanks for that tip, btw!), are way cheaper than their adult counterparts. Saving some money is always nice.
- Sephora’s VIB sale! I always splurge on new cosmetics during their annual 20% off sale (and don’t even look throughout the rest of the year, promise). Trying new cosmetics makes me so excited! Its superficial, but so what? This year I picked up some stunning nail polish colors (true red, ivory, light peachy nude, and lilac mauve). I’m also trying some “radiant” tinted moisturizer, “illuminating” foundation and skin perfecter to see if any of them are worthy of making it into my daily skincare regimen. I love Sephora for their return policy, so anything I don’t love goes back!
Hope your Monday gets off to a good start! Again, feel free to share the things that you’re happy or excited about 🙂
I’m with you on being always cold and happy about fitting into kids’ shoes. Is that one of your fur-balls? He or she is adorable!!! What jacket/coat are you wearing in your pic? You look great!
I’m thankful for really only wanting but not needing much and that everyone I love are mostly healthy.
Also love the VIB sale! Between the winter event and the coupon I usually receive for my birthday about 6 months later, I try to stock enough basics to get me through the year. It makes a huge difference, because cosmetics (almost) never go on sale. And if the eBates timing is right, I get enough cash back to negate the sales tax. It’s a big purchase, but worthwhile to have foundation, blush, skincare and other everyday products at a 20% discount. The only basic I skip is mascara, since it has such a short shelf life after opened. I’ve never bought a new mascara and let it sit unopened for a couple of months… not sure if that would impact its useful life or not?
Beautiful picture.
Ugh, working on holidays is the pits! You poor thing. Hopefully next year will be better. =P
As I am typing that I am at home back from work, warm, half fed with a
self customy miso soup, on my bed, with my 3 sleeping cats and,
obviously, browsing the internet (and your blog by the way !!). Rainy
weather here in France.
And I feel happy with those simple
things. True I did indulge myself 2 pairs of beautiful shoes (outlet).
And then I have the opportunity to see how beautiful and green your eyes
are: sorry I am french so, of course, we are well known to be quite
bold !!! I am sorry to know you will be working during holidays, I did
also in the previous years.
I feel happy because at my current
job, I have been told I was a very good professional, worth the pay and
regretted: I am a temp and finished my contract today. That is really
very agreeable to hear!
And I know I will be able to cook again as
I like to do, taking my time, just to enjoy it and for me only (or
friends sometime).
And of course, as you do, my cats which also help me when I need it.
The coat in that picture looks exactly like what I have been searching for. Could you let me know what brand and size it might be?
I do wish we had Sephora over here in the UK. I always head over there whenever I spot a Sephora when I’m travelling and I stock up! A 20% sale would be amazing!

I have a Practical Clothes Question. As a fellow biomedical type with more fashion sense than I have, maybe you can help me.
I am presently applying to graduate schools in neurobiology. Some of them are graduate programs at medical schools. From what I have heard, graduate students at medical schools are generally expected to dress up nicer most of the time than graduate students at universities.
Given that lab work inherently contains the risk of getting various substances on one’s clothing and requires lab-safe shoes, what sorts of clothes and shoes would you recommend in order to both look nice and meet Environmental Health and Safety office standards, and where the hell would I get them?
Hi Amber!
Love your blog, this is exactly the type of blog I have been searching for as a tiny 5ft student! All your photos look amazing too. Just wanted to let you know that I’ve pinned this to my home page 🙂 Sending lots of gratitude, MJ xxx
