Its crazy to think that my first month of residency is almost over. Only three more days to go, and one of them is my “off” day (with a brunch planned, yum!!). In medical school, I was terrified of the possibility of the ICU being my first service. Now that’s its nearly done, I’m happy I did it first. I learned so much and my confidence level has drastically increased. I still obviously have tons to learn, but I feel like I have a solid foundation to work from now. That’s so important to me. I still have a hard time introducing myself as doctor, though. I’ve honestly stumbled saying my own name. Its embarrassing. In my defense, my last name is really long, and I don’t get much sleep.
You know how the little things can really help make your day? Well, today I was so excited to get my J. Crew package with the short sleeve sweatshirt. Now only is the shirt just as soft and cozy as I remember it, it also came with the receipt. To my surprise, they waived shipping! And there’s no sales tax here. $11.99 for that shirt? Yes, please!! Doesn’t get any better than that. So, lesson learned. If you see something in store for cheap but your size is sold out, do the “we will find it” and have it sent to you 🙂 This doesn’t always work, but it doesn’t hurt to try.
In house decorating news, overstock.com finally convinced me to make the next addition to my studio with their 15% off email code. After a striking about of internal debate, I finally decided on this kimura shoji screen to separate my bed and the kitty poo box. See, it was so difficult because this bamboo room divider is the main room divider in my studio (love it, by the way). I needed a screen that would match, or at least not clash with it. I’m hoping that I made the right decision. I’ll take pictures of my bedroom as soon as I finally get a nightstand (my “bedroom” = bed + nightstand, surrounded by two screens, haha).
Oh yes, I also picked up a basic desk chair. I’ve been using a stability ball as an office chair for the past month or so, which is sometimes alright. The problem with the ball is, well, that its a ball. When you’re trying to sit on said ball in a state of exhaustion, you may not notice when the ball begins to roll (or you begin to sway). And somehow, before you know it, you’re on the floor with a scraped and bruised shoulder. Not cool. Its probably worth investing in proper sitting furniture. Its cheaper than going to the doctor. I hate going to the doctor.
I believe that its almost the weekend again! Despite working 30 of the last 48 hours, I’m doing pretty ok. I’m hoping that I spend this Saturday doing more than just sleeping. I do have that brunch planned, and who can skip brunch? That would be insane. And after that maybe I’ll sit outside and do a little blog catch-up. Gosh, I’m so behind! Thank you for your comments, as always. There’s a 75% chance that I’ll reply to everyone by this weekend 😉 Have a good one!
Although I’ve been a reader for a while, I don’t usually comment. However, I just wanted to let you know that I always look forward to reading your posts! I love how you talk about budgeting, have great style, and mostly, I love that you’re a doctor because that’s so inspirational for me. I’m starting undergraduate this fall so I guess I’m a ways away from where you are (and feeling a bit lost, but I suppose that’s the natural progression of life), but your posts have made me realize that there’s so much to growing into independence! Keep up the great work. (:
I love this dress! It’s very unique; I don’t think I’ve seen any with a print quite like that. It looks like you could easily dress it up or down, too, which is definitely something I look for. Thanks for sharing!
I always look forward to your new post! Just a random question.. what bag do you usually take to work? I know you used your Tods bag during interviews, but what would be a good bag to carry during residency?(Do you carry your fendi bag? or is it just for days off..) Thanks for getting back to the comments and questions. It makes reading blogs more fun. 🙂 Congratulations on finishing your first month!
J.Crew’s We Will Find It is totally awesome! I need to remind myself to use that service more often! 🙂 And stability balls are horrible. I mean, they’re fine for like, a few minutes but then… no. Nothing beats a real chair 😉
Congrats on your first month! I love hearing about your progression through your career and you decorating your new home. It makes me feel like I really need to clean up my place, lol. I love your dress. It looks so silky smooth. You make me want to break out my geometric print dress! shortandsweetjoy
