I’m the type of person that always has to be doing something. If I don’t have anything left on my to-do list, I’ll make another one. Maybe I should re-paint the bathroom. Why don’t I learn the basic skills of bargaining? I should really go through that box of (fill in the blank). It would really benefit me to be more educated on quality improvement in medicine…
There is always more work that can be done.
I do this because staying busy is how I keep myself happy. Or, at least I don’t allow myself to get upset. If my mind is always occupied, I won’t think about ill family members. Or ones that have passed recently. I won’t think about my mountain of loans, working 80 hours per week, or the possibility of making a mistake that would cost someone their life. My “complaints list” could go on. We all have not-so-good parts of life to deal with. But in my opinion, dwelling on things I can’t change is worthless, especially when there are so many things I can change.
If you read this post, thank you. I pretty much wrote it as a mini pep talk for myself 🙂
